the operation of all library public service functions, including the

Essential
Functions:

Participate in selection, training and supervision of
part-time assistants assigned to circulation and collection
maintenance; ensure adequate staffing and coverage; monitor

Assign loose-leaf filing to student workers. Solve
filing problems and report missing pages to Serials Assistant for
claiming.

Process course reserve materials. Consult directly
with faculty regarding their course reserve needs to ensure
accuracy, completeness and retention period; manage addition,
retention and withdrawal of course reserve materials. Replace
missing course reserve materials.

Provide students with access to copies of old final
exams by making copies of the exams available online and in hard
copy.

Supervise filing and maintenance of microforms; work
with the Documents / Microforms Librarian in space planning and
microform shifts. Assist patrons in use of microforms and
equipment.

Compile statistics and data; prepare summary reports
and lists, as assigned.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

assistants.

The Gordon D.

Assistant Director of Public Services and Legal Research. The Assistant
Director of Public Services and Legal Research is responsible for
coordinating and overseeing the overall Public Services operations of
the Gordon D. Schaber Law Library, and participates actively in the Law
School’s Global Lawyering Skills course. As head of the public services
department, the Assistant Director oversees a talented and experienced
professional staff with duties encompassing reference services, research
and instructional support, computer services, interlibrary loan,
circulation, and collection maintenance; the Assistant Director of
Public Services also provides reference, instructional, and outreach
services. Candidates should have a global perspective on legal
education, have the capacity to teach in the School of Law’s expansive
Global Lawyering Skills course (legal process, legal research, legal
writing, advocacy and lawyering skills), and the ability to work
collaboratively in creative curriculum development, with a primary focus

OVERVIEW
The Habeas Corpus
Resource Center (HCRC), located in
San Francisco, has an exciting opportunity for a Research and Information Management
Specialist in an agency that provides legal representation to death-row
inmates. The primary purpose of the HCRC is to represent death row
inmates in post-conviction proceedings in state and federal courts and
to serve as a resource to private appointed counsel in capital
post-conviction proceedings.

authorized staff of 86 people, including 34 attorneys. Additional

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides
lead direction to HCRC docketing, library and information resources
staff and consultant
- Organizes
and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure
completion and quality of assigned work;
- Provides
input into selection, evaluation, discipline, and other personnel
matters;
- Plans,
organizes and performs the full range of work involved in operating
and maintaining a research and information management system and
library for the HCRC;
- Researches,
recommends and applies new technologies appropriate to HCRC needs in
the areas of library, research and information management.

project cost and benefit estimates; estimates project resource needs

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and
Experience:
Equivalent to
possession of a bachelor’s degree, preferably with major course work in
information management, library science, computer science, or related
fields and three years experience in research and information system
management, document management, and information system design and
technology.
Additional
experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year
basis. Possession of a directly related postgraduate degree may be
substituted for one year of experience.

California Judicial Center Library in San Francisco has a regular,

THE CALIFORNIA JUDICIAL CENTER LIBRARY
The California Judicial Center Library serves the legal information
needs of the justices and staff of the California Supreme Court and the
California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District; and the staff of
the Administrative Office of the Courts. The Library's collection of
more than 250,000 volumes is located in San
Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles. Assistant Law Librarians I/II
are assigned to the San Francisco location, a 45,000 square foot facility located in the Hiram Johnson

Under direction from the Coordinator, Research and Reference
Services, the Assistant Law Librarians I/II perform a full range of
professional law library duties associated with the delivery of legal

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Using library and
online resources to conduct legal research in all areas of interest
to appellate courts;
- Preparing
legislative histories;
- Responding to
reference inquiries;
- Assisting
justices, attorneys, externs and other staff members with their use
of library and online resources;
- Providing
instruction in the use of electronic and other published resources;
- Developing
bibliographies and pathfinders;
· Conducting library tours and orientations;
· Transporting books and boxes of books weighing up to approximately 40
pounds; and

QUALIFICATIONS
Assistant Law
Librarian I: Equivalent to
possession of a master’s degree in library science from an American
Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution, and two years of
professional library experience
OR Equivalent to
possession of a law degree and one year of professional library
experience.
Assistant Law
Librarian II:
Equivalent to possession of a master’s degree in library science from an
ALA-accredited institution, and two years of professional law library
experience OR Equivalent to possession of a law degree and two years of
professional law library experience OR Two years as Assistant Law
Librarian I with the Judicial Branch.
At both levels,
additional directly related experience may be substituted for the
education on a year-for-year basis.

Duties and
Responsibilities
§ Under the general
supervision of the Associate Dean of Library and Information Services,
participates in all aspects of library administration, including budget

§ Serves as part of the
Library's management team, together with the Associate Dean and the
Associate Law Librarian for Technical Services.
§ Takes front-line
responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Law Library.
§ In consultation with
the Associate Dean, directs the activities of the public services units
of the Law Library, including reference, collection development, and
access services.
§ Oversees and develops
the Law Library's web presence, which includes providing easy access to
electronic resources, developing online user guides and other web-based
services, and undertaking digitization projects.
§ Coordinates the Law
Library's publications program, including research guides, brochures and

§ Participates as a

Library on various Law School, campus-wide, and Library System

Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate degree in library science from an
